    Patricia was born in Embrun, Ontario in 1936 and has been a
    resident of Ottawa and the area all her life. She has been living
    in Dunrobin since 1982. Her artistic career spans over a period
    of more than 40 years. Patricia paints detailed realistic
    watercolours, oils and acrylics out of doors and in her studio
    in front of the subject. Over the years she has explored and
    experimented with new methods, styles and subject matter. She
    has developed her own approach to the subjects she loves most.
    Each painting is a unique interpretation of the subject at the
    time it was painted. Each work requires several days in front
    of the subject, during which time, light and weather vary a
    great deal. The subjects Patricia paints range from close-up of
    mushrooms to panoramic landscapes incorporating vast areas of
    countryside. Her love of nature particularly the woodland
    undergrowth, old buildings and the rustic beauty of old, dented,
    broken and weathered artifacts as well as delicate old lace are
    reflected in her paintings.


    In 1956 she attended Ottawa Technical High School for one year
    studying "Charcoal and White" techniques. She continued her
    studies in 1969 to 1970 at Algonquin College studying Commercial
    Arts I and II. She studied oils with Peter Corbett in 1976.
    From 1977 to 1981 she studied watercolour under Morton Baslaw.
    In 1978 she completed a Correspondence Course with the Ontario
    Ministry of Education on ‘Composing Your Art'. She has attended
    numerous workshops with Bruce Heggtviet, Ken Finch, Robert Hyndman,
    Morton Baslaw and Mary Snyder School of Fine Arts in Actinolite,
    Ontario. She is a graduate of the Ottawa School of Art's ‘Diploma
    Program of Fine Arts. She has earned 41 credits in the Arts
    Program at Ottawa University.


    Patricia has participated in 114 group shows including the 133rd
    International Exhibition of the American Watercolour Society at
    the Salmagundi Club in New York City, the Canadian Society of
    Painters in Watercolour at the John B Aird Gallery in Toronto,
    Alexander's Art Gallery, Ottawa School of Art, the Pinhey Estate,
    McDonald Club, Ottawa Art Association, Ottawa Watercolour Society,
    Kanata Art Club, West Carleton Art Association, Les amis de la
    culture in Rigaud, QC., L'association des Séguin d'Amérique in
    Boucherville QC., Artarama Program, Wildlife Festival in Ottawa,
    BRAVO Provincial, the Chateau Laurier, Vintners in Kanata and
    Artrise Gallery in Stittsville, The Ottawa Art Festival. Her work
    has been accepted in 46 juried exhibitions and has won many prizes.
    She has had several solo exhibitions in local galleries and in her studio.


    She has been affiliated with the OWS since 1979 and in 1984 was
    awarded a fellowship by the Society. In 1997 she was accepted into
    the membership of the Society of Canadian Artists. Patricia has
    been a member of the Society's Executive since 1984. From
    November 1995 to November 1997 she served as president of the
    Society. She has served as jury member on several of the Society's
    juried exhibitions and Fellowship Awards. Pat was on the organizing
    committee of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour
    Symposium held in Ottawa in the Fall of 1998. In 2002 Pat was
    elected into the Canadian Society of Painters In Watercolour.
    She was commissioned to do six illustrations for the publication
    "Feux et brumes". Pat's paintings are in Corporate and Private
    collections throughout Canada, in Greece and in the United States.





    Patricia E. Séguin-Smith     Dunrobin (Ontario), Canada

    Patricia est née à Embrun, en Ontario, en 1936 et a vécu dans
    la région d'Ottawa toute sa vie. Elle réside à Dunrobin depuis
    1982. Sa carrièrre artistique s'étend sur une période de 40 ans.

    Patricia peint des aquarelles des huiles et des acryliques
    détaillées et réalistes tant à l'extérieur que dans son atelier
    devant un motif. Au fils des années elle a exploré et expérimenté
    de nouvelles méthodes, de nouveaux styles et motifs. Elle a
    développé sa propre approche aux motifs qu'elle préfère. Chaque
    tableaux est une interprétation unique du motif du moment ou il
    a été fixé sur la toile. Chaque oeuvre nécessite un travail de
    plusieurs heures ou plusieurs jours devant le motif; pendant ce
    temps la lumière et les conditions atmosphériques varient beaucoup.
    Patricia peint aussi bien des gros plans de champignons que de
    vastes paysages panoramiques ruraux. Son amour de la nature en
    général et des sous-bois en particulier, des vieux édifices et
    de la beauté rustique d'objets anciens, dentelés, brisés ou
    endommagés par les intempéries se reflète dans ses peintures.

    En 1956, elle a fréquenté l'Ottawa Technical High School pendant
    un an pour y étudier le fusain. Elle a poursuivi ses études en
    1969 et en 1970 au collège Algonquin aux programme des arts
    commerciaux I et II. Elle a étudié les huiles avec Peter Corbett
    en 1976 et l'aquarelle avec Morton Baslaw de 1977 à 1981. En
    1978 elle a terminé un cours par correspondance du ministère de
    l'éducation de l'Ontario sur la création artistique. Elle a
    participé à de nombreux ateliers avec Bruce Heggteveit, Ken
    Finch, Robert Hyndman, Morton Baslaw et la Mary Snyder School
    of Fine Art. Elle est diplomée de l'Ecloe d'art d'Ottawa. Elle a
    obtenue 41 crédits en études classiques au niveau du baccalauréat
    à l'Université d'Ottawa.

    Patricia a participé à 114 expositions de groupe comprenant la
    American Watercolour Society à New York, la galerie ArtPlus à
    Casselman, la Britannia Gallery à Ottawa, la Société Canadienne
    d'artiste en aquarelle à la galerie John B. Aird à Toronto, la
    galerie d'art Alexandre, l'Ecole des art d'Ottawa, le Pinhey Estate,
    le McDonald Club, l'Ottawa Art Association, la Société d'aquarelle
    d'Ottawa, le Kanata Art Club, le West Carleton Art Association,
    Les amis de la culture à Rigaud, PQ., Club l'Association des
    Séguin d'Amérique à Boucherville, PQ., le Festival de la faune,
    BRAVO est, le Chateau Laurier à Ottawa et la galerie Artrise et
    le festival des arts d'Ottawa. Ses oeuvres ont été acceptées dans
    46 expositions par jury de sélection et ont gagnées plusieurs prix.
    Elle a exposé en solo dans des galeries locales et dans son atelier.

    Elle est affiliée à la SAO depuis 1979. En septembre 1984, elle a
    reçu un titre de membre agrée de la société. En 1997 elle est
    acceptée comme membre de L'association d'artistes canadiens.
    Patricia fait partie de l'exécutif de la SAO depuis 1984. De
    novembre 1995 à novembre 1997 elle est présidente de la SAO.
    Elle a participé comme membre de jury de sélection à plusieurs
    expositions et aussi à la sélection de membres agrée. En 1998
    elle fait partie du comité de planification et d'organization du
    symposium de la Société canadienne de pientres en aquarelle.
    En 2002 elle est élu dans la Société canadienne de peintres en
    aquarelle. Sur commande spéciale, elle à produit une série de six
    illustrations pour la publication "Feux et brumes". Les oeuvres de
    Patricia font partie de collections particulières et de sociétés
    commerciales au Canada en Grèce et au Etats-Unis.

    Fund Raising Activities:
    1979 to 1995 was commissioned to do a painting yearly as a special prize in the United Way
    Fund Raising Campaign for Statistics Canada.
    1979 to 1984 donated a painting yearly to the Rideau Regional Center of Eastern Ontario for
    their Fund Raising Campaign.
    1980 to 2004 donated a painting yearly to the Daughters of Isabella for their Fund Raising
    Program.
    Donated paintings for fund raising to other organizations such as Big Brothers Association
    of Ottawa, Ottawa Choral Society, West Carleton First Response, St. Patrick’s Home of
    Ottawa, The Liberal Party of Ontario etc.

    Four commissions for private collections.

    Works are in corporate and private collections in the United States, Greece and Canada.
